Disclaimer: Climbing is dangerous. I am not responsible if you hurt yourself by using the information in this guide. To the best of my ability I have tried to make this a safe spot to climb, but not all circumstances can be avoided. The town of Parry Sound shuns drug users so they find wooded areas to get their fix. The Fitness Trail is one of those spots, so if you find yourself fueled on adrenaline, your muscles are starting to look like Popeye the Sailor or you’re sweating profusely, it might not be from the climbing. (Go seek help)
Fitness Trail: A flat 3.2 km trail that starts at the new Salt Docks and ends at Champagne St. The Fitness Trail runs through the town of Parry Sound. If you want one of the best sunsets in town this trail is where you’re going to get it. Currently, there are three developed boulders for you to play around on. If you find more, let me know and I’ll add them to this list.
As per the TOWN OF PARRY SOUND ZONING BY-LAW 2004-4653 this space is deemed open space (O1), which doesn’t specifically allow climbing but does not prohibit climbing. The Law states its permitted uses are • Playground or Tot-Lot • Play Field • Sports Field. I’ve always liked to think of Mother Nature as my personal playground so I’d say we’re good. The only thing I ask is that you bring a garbage bag and clean up any garbage you see. Climbers are respectful people so leave the place cleaner than you found it.
PLEASE CONTACT ME DANIEL HEFFORD, ON FACEBOOK OR IN THE CONTACT SECTION IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR GRADES OR OTHER ROUTE INFORMATION. I AM ALSO LOOKING FOR GRADING VERIFICATION.
1. Can you feel the rush tonight? V1/2/3: There are several options on how to climb this boulder. All three climbs start with both hands on the S hold. The climbs end with a match on the dying tree or a top out.
V3 Option: Only feet on the main boulder. Heel hooks and toe jams are your friends here.
V2 Option: Feet on the main boulder at the start, then use the detached boulder to the left at the side pull to make your way to the tree.
V1 Option: Feet anywhere there is rock.
2. Participation Trophy V1/2 There are two traverses here. Just to get the blood flowing.
3. Vegan Power (Red) V5/6 Sit down start; climb left. There is a really crimpy right hand start. (The rocks on the ground are out)
4. Troll City (Blue) V4/5 Sit down start; climb straight up. There is a really crimpy right hand start. (The rocks on the ground are out)
