If you’re looking for a pretty awesome cross country ski after work I’d highly suggest skiing out to Hole in the Wall. The ski itself is only a 9.5km round trip from The George Hunt Memorial Boat Ramp. You have to either pay for parking or be a McDougall resident to use this parking. However, I’ve never received a ticket parking after 17:00 on a weeknight. Alternatively, you could park at the Salt Dock Boat Ramp and it is only a 10.5km round trip.
Erin, Margaret and I started skiing around 17:00. Skiing south down Barry’s channel was quite enjoyable. We were making our own tracks the entire time gliding quickly on only a few inches of snow.

There was a little bit of wind but it wasn’t very cold. It is a really cool feeling skiing where in just a couple months there will be boats.

I brought my drone out to fly in between Hole in the Wall. You can watch the video here.

It was such a cool experience skiing through Hole in the Wall and skiing on Georgian Bay. My only disclaimer is that there is some current through Hole in the Wall so be very careful and go with friends. I had a rope and extra clothing just incase someone went in. Also I knew that people had biked there the week before.

The entire trip took less than 2 hours. Easily do-able on a weeknight. I’d highly suggest it. This trip had been on my list for a couple years. Margaret said it’s a bucket list item that she didn’t know was on her bucket list.
